Office of the Holy Ministry
The shepherd’s crook is in the form of a cross, recalling Jesus as the Good Shepherd and the Redeemer. Draped on the cross is a red stole, which is the color that the Church uses for ordaining and installing her pastors. On the left side of the stole are a shell and three drops of water, representing Holy Baptism in the name of the Triune God; on the right, the host and chalice signify Christ’s body and blood in the Lord’s Supper. The crossed keys symbolize the binding and loosing keys given to the disciples by Jesus (John 20:23). Finally, the Luther rose is pictured at the bottom.
